Mushi leaves Fnatic
Mushi
departs Fnatic
It is truly an end of an era. Mushi dota 2 profile privacy After almost 2 years, Mushi, one of the most popular players from South-East Asia, and also one of the reasons that the SEA scene is as good as it is right now, has decided to leave Fnatic. To some, this comes as a bit of a surprise, to some it doesn’t, considering the team wasn’t able to qualify for the Boston Major, and afterwards was unable to get a stable roster. His long time friend, Ohaiyo will remain in the team, along with the recent addition, Febby.
Statement from Mushi:
I would like to start off by saying thank you to Fnatic for supporting me all the way from when we had just started off, and all my teammates along the way for your support. I would also like to thank my fans for supporting me through thick and thin.
At the moment I’m leaving Fnatic as a player. I’m not sure about my future plans ahead yet, but I’m looking forward to explore into a new environment.
Statement from reiNNNN (Fnatic’s Dota Manager):
I never expected the day would come when Mushi would leave Fnatic Dota but that time has unfortunately arrived. It is with very heavy heart that I say our long time captain will be leaving us for other ventures.
I would like to thank Mushi for picking me as the manager when the team first started as Team Malaysia, thanks for all the joyful memory he has brought to us and thanks to all the knowledge he has shared to all his teammates to make them better players. The SEA scene would not be as competitive as it is now without your presence. You have lived up your name as a legend and I hope you continue to do so in your future team.
Not a big fan of mushi these days but the video of mushi after being eliminated at TI3 is among the most poignant to ever emerge from the Dota scene.
Wish him good luck in the future.
Mushi was an absolutely great player and he’s an absolute legend in Dota 2, one of the top 10 or so titans of the game and its history, but it’s pretty clear that his presence was completely stifling the growth of the rest of Fnatic, and it wasn’t clear they were ever going to grow again with him around.
Mushi gets to leave and go for something completely fresh (I’m like 100% he’s gonna go back to China, and maybe even before the Kiev qualifiers to a team like EHome) and probably a place where he doesn’t need to / feel the desire to captain anymore. He was always his best when someone else was leading him, like during the DK days or the brief but very strong 9 month period for Fnatic from the Shanghai Major to TI 6 where DJ and 343 took control.
Fnatic now has a roster that can grow without the weight of Mushi on top of it, and regardless of what you’ve seen from Ohaiyo and Febby in the past 2 months or so I’m sure they are a great duo to start building a new foundation around. I expect we’ll probably see a new trial roster from them for the Mr. Cat tournament they are playing in 10 days from now.

I think this might actually be in the best interest of both parties.

i think, i can buy into your ehome thingy because ehome has been absolute disaster with their new roster..mushi was fnatic’s carry/mid as well as their drafter and captain for most of the time and these things do really take big toll.
sometimes, a new start is all someone need when they are down or the team is down. i am pretty sure a player of his calibre won’t stop unless he wins a TI.
