Meepo and Phantom Lancer connection?

I was going to post this on the mega thread but I figured this might warrant it’s own discussion. I think it’s possible that PL and Meepo are connected. (Sorry if this has been discussed before.)

Meepo’s lore:There used to be a palace there, where they had all these dark rituals. Bad stuff. If you survived the ceremony, they would shatter a crystal and split your soul into pieces. They made great art though! Sculptures and such. Let me tell you: sometimes you stumble onto some of those old carvings. Take a pack full of those to town and sell them, then get yourself food for a few weeks. If luck is really on your side, you might find a Riftshadow crystal. Get it appraised and start asking around. Someone always knows some crazy fool looking for this kind of thing. If all else fails, sell it to a Magus the next time one’s in town. They love that stuff. Still, whatever you do, be careful handling those crystals. You do not want one to go off on you. It really hurts.

PL’s lore:Placed with his kin in the vanguard of the final assault against the Dread Magus Vorn, the cost to his fellows was absolute. As the charging force battled toward the fortress, Azwraith alone among his kind remained standing, and he alone was able to infiltrate the keep. Focused and infuriated by the slaughter of his brothers, Azwraith bested each of the wizard’s deadly traps and conjured guardians. Soon the simple fisherman arrived at Vorn’s tower sanctum. The pair dueled through the night, pike to staff, as chaos raged below, and with a deafening cry Azwraith pierced his enemy. But the wizard did not simply expire; he exploded into uncountable shards of light, penetrating his killer with power. As the dust settled and the smoke of combat began to clear, Azwraith found himself standing among a throng of his kin. Each seemed to be dressed as he was, each seemed armed as he was, and he could sense that each thought as he did.

Is it possible that the Dread Magus Vorn had a Riftshadow Crystal on him at the time Azwraith killed him, and the killing blow happened to have disturbed the crystal enough for it to go off? Meepo’s bio does say that if all else fails, he’d just sell the crystals to a Magus next time he saw one, and both of them obtained their ability to clone via an explosion.

The biggest differences between their powers are:
a) Meepo’s clones are permanent, Phantom Lancer’s clones aren’t,
b) There are five Meepo’s, and apparently a potential infinite amount of Phantoms (His ability four’s flavor text said so, not sure if that’s really true but anyway. )
c) Meepo’s clones are connected to each other in life, if one dies, they all die while Lancer seems to be disconnected from them, with each being a separate entity in terms of life, though
d) It isn’t really known whether the Meepo’s share a mental link, while it is confirmed by PL’s bio that the Phantoms do.

Theory for why the differences exist:
Let’s take Meepo as the default situation. He just got hit by a regular old explosion from one of those things. There were really no known oddities about his situation, he just dropped it (or something) and boom, instant rat pack, micro skillz not included.

There aren’t really any oddities as such with PL’s situation either but there are differences. PL wouldn’t have taken on the full explosion, a good portion of the energy would have been absorbed by Vorn, who was already basically dead, and probably wouldn’t have survived the force of the explosion. (I’ll get to what happened with his soul in a bit.) So PL took a lesser explosion. The blast wasn’t complete, and his soul didn’t so much “split” but instead was “chipped” at the edges, with small fragments splitting from the base soul. This would explain the weaker forms of his Phantoms to the base Lancer as they are “incomplete” copies. They have the image down, but not enough actual soul to form properly, ergo, Phantoms. This also explains why they cannot die and can simply reform over and over. They don’t have an actual form to kill. You can dispel their image but not actually kill them. Kind of like waving your hand through a body of water, the water is no longer a still image and no longer seems as solid, but it’s still there. This in turn explains why PL doesn’t die when the Phantoms do, because they don’t die, he doesn’t.

A hole in this theory is Lancer’s invisibility and affinity for light, though I think this can be solved by assuming Vorn utilized light based magic, and some of his soul may have merged with PL as a side effect of the explosion blasting both of them. The explosion seems to effect the soul, so it makes sense that “shrapnel” of Vorn’s soul may have embedded itself in Lancer’s. (Which would explain the ability to blend with spectrum of light and the fact that the Phantoms are able to manifest at all, seemingly being made of solid light.)

I put way too much thought into this I know, but what do you guys think?
