Dota 2 – How to increase your MMR ?
March 11, 2015 by Tyzmo
First of all, let me make 1 thing crystal clear – MMR MATTERS. This rating is not a magical number you randomly get based on your zodiac sign. This is the best indicator of a player’s skill level. Sure it has its flaws but I have never seen a decent player below 3k MMR or a shitty one above 5k. Sure you can buy an account, but you have to be downright stupid to do so. You will compete with players above your skill level so inevitably, your sorry ass will drop and ruin the games for others in which case you deserve a lifetime of low priority.
The only way to increase this, is to increase it naturally by increasing your skill level. Easier said than done. Most players as stubborn as fuck. There are however some tips and tricks that can help you increase your skill and as a result your MMR.
1. Pick what you can to play
If you think you can increase your rating by trying out new shit you see on youtube then you need to go slowly to the bathroom and slap the shit out of yourself. This is basic crap. The more you play a hero the better you will get (sadly not a guarantee). Sure it gets boring to play the same hero in the same way over and over but life sucks. Picking a hero you have no idea how to play will most likely end in a stunning defeat with a potential report. Select a handful of heroes you’re good at and play those.
2. Play your role
Basic common sense – if you pick a support then please for the love of Pete play support. I personally hate playing support and i am aware that if i do, i will either have to fuk the game and play it like i want to and farm and kill (which is retarded), or play it like it should, be an extremely boring game for me but win. So i want to stay away from this choice and just stick to what I like to play. Sure you can play some in many ways, but again, don’t try out new things in ranked matches. Play the heroes you are comfortable with in the roles you are comfortable with.
3. Picks and counterpicks
If you know you suck and can play only 2 heroes, then pick first. If you can play multiple heroes pick whatever the game needs. It’s not that hard to figure it out. If it is, you can find suggestions online. Just plug in the picks so far and you’ll get the best recommendation. If you already have 4 cores pick a support. It’s amazing how many of these tips are actually common sense and how much they are disregarded.
4. Adapt to every situation
Never play a hero in the exact same way every match. Adapt to each game. For example as a support if the safe farm lane is taken by sniper and he manages ok, there is no point in taking his experience. Either go woods if you have no jungler or go offlane to help. As a carry, if you cannot farm, ask for help.
5. Watch the pro players
What good players play, how and why. Look at them and understand their play style. This is logical stuff anyway. This is the learning curve in any area, not just dota. Dota 2 average mmr ranking dota Observe – learn – try – fail – try – … – succeed. Luckily for you there are thousands of videos of epic plays you can watch and learn. But don’t rush in and think “wow that shit was awesome” and jump in the first game to try it out.
6. Practice
Experience and skill come with practice. Play your favorite heroes in practice matches or normal ones. Try new stuff here. See what works, see what doesn’t. Don’t assume that if most players play in a certain way that’s the best way. Use logic and experience new stuff. Then when you are confident enough try ranked. Practice comes hand in hand with the next tip:
Ultimately it actually takes some common sense to increase your mmr. Eventually you will hit a wall and start to fluctuate between some limits.
